MIAMI, FL: Hundreds of tech trailblazers gathered at Florida International University for Black Tech Week 2016. The event is dedicated to the growing tech sphere with a focus on minority entrepreneurship. Recent studies reveal that Blacks and Hispanics will make up 42 percent of the U.S. population in the next 20 years. Currently, minorities only represent a minute portion of those who work in technology related fields.

 Founded by Felecia Hatcher and Derick Pearson, the conference is focused on uniting tech entrepreneurs, while providing useful training and insight into this growing industry.  The weeklong series of workshops, brings together the most innovative minds to exchange ideas and address common challenges.
It was truly refreshing to be in a room filled with like-minded people. For anyone who works in a tech related field, it can feel extremely isolating. Many have defined this new digital revolution as "The Wild West!" Pioneering new technologies and approaches to sharing stories with viewers has introduced new challenges in electronic news journalism. The new use of virtual reality, combined with advances in live streaming technologies along with dozens of social media platforms, has truly created new challenges for journalist. It's also an exciting new chapter for story tellers. It was amazing to hear perspectives on these new forms of media/technologies! As a journalist, its essential to be engaged in this conversation.
